A Parisian lawyer, Paul (Romain Duris) has everything to be happy: an enviable professional situation and a lovely family with whom he has just moved into a luxurious house in the suburbs. Yet Paul is not happy. Relations with his wife (Marina Foà¯s) are no longer good, and this photography enthusiast dreams of another life. A tragic event will turn his life upside down, and by force of circumstances, offer him the opportunity to change his skin. A successful change of genre for Eric Lartigau in 2010, who brilliantly passes from comedy ("Who killed Paméla Rose?", "Lend me your hand") to drama. Adapted from the bestseller of the same name by Douglas Kennedy, "The Man Who Wanted to Live His Life" leads a man frustrated by his existence into the wilderness, who sees his wish granted following a tragic misfortune, and finds himself in the middle of a nightmare. The film is not exempt from blunders: Romain Duris, always on the verge of implosion, overplay and lack of naturalness; the narration sometimes lacks fluidity; the end is a bit sloppy. However, it emanates from this psychological thriller mixed with film noir (which will inevitably give the unskilled the desire to discover the world of the writer) a beautiful energy, an exciting atmosphere and a suspense that keeps going until the end. We will notice the excellent performance of Niels Arestrup, hailed by a nomination for the 2011 ésar, the only one for this film, however acclaimed by the public and a good part of the critics. is not exempt from clumsiness: Romain Duris, always on the verge of implosion, over-play and lack of naturalness; the narration sometimes lacks fluidity; the end is a bit sloppy.
