Slade, a former police officer jailed for the murder of his wife's lover, is paroled and becomes a night watchman at a university. However, he must report regularly to the police, to a woman, Linda, in charge of his surveillance, and who falls under his spell. Assassinations take place after the theft of magnetic tapes concerning students. The first victim is the daughter of the local senator, Nathalie Clayborne, soon followed in death by her father's secretary, then by her lover. Slade decides to investigate.
