1932 - After a 10-year exile in the United States, Jimmy Gralton returns to the country to help his mother take care of the family farm. The Ireland he finds, a decade after the civil war, has a new government. All hope is allowed ... Following the solicitations of the youth of Leitrim County, Jimmy, despite his reluctance to provoke his old enemies like the Church or the landowners, decides to reopen the "Hall", a home open to all where one finds oneself dancing, studying, or discussing. Again, success is immediate. But Jimmy's growing influence and progressive ideas are still not to everyone's liking in the village. Tensions are resurfacing.
